CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Summer jobs used to be a rite of passage—whether it was lifeguarding, scooping ice cream, or folding shirts at the mall, teens always seemed to have plenty of options to earn some extra cash.

But this year, those classic summer gigs are harder to come by, and many teens are spending the summer unemployed.
