North Carolina’s Future Transit Leaders Explore Charlotte’s Transportation Infrastructure with NCDOT Internship

The future of North Carolina’s infrastructure is getting a closer look from the next generation of professionals. In a recent initiative by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), interns from the department’s HBCU Outreach program spent a week in Charlotte, immersing themselves in the inner workings of the city’s transportation systems. This educational dive offered a unique chance for these students to get a hands-on feel for the everyday challenges and operations that keep a modern city moving.

According to a social media post from NCDOT, the interns’ itinerary included exploring airport operations, and a behind-the-scenes look at NCDOT Division 10, and Charlotte Area Transit System’s Lynx light rail. These experiences are expected to mold them into “tomorrow’s infrastructure leaders.” It’s not just about building roads and bridges, it’s about understanding the flow of people, the rhythm of traffic, and the necessities of maintaining and improving upon modern transit solutions.
