The strongest heat wave of the summer rages on across the WCCB Charlotte viewing area. High temperatures around 100 with feels like temperatures near 110 continue into the start of the work week for the Piedmont. You can find some relief with a getaway to the High Country where highs will be near 85. This pattern holds through Wednesday across the area. Rain chances will be hit or miss for many of us the next couple of days. Some will see quick afternoon storms while others watch the grass in their lawn die. Due to this heat wave and lack of rain, we are seeing an uptick in the drought monitor, so count yourself lucky if you get a storm!
Here is the good news you’ve been waiting for. RELIEF IS ON THE WAY! By the end of the work week we will have a front begin to work towards the area from the north. This increases rain chances Thursday and Friday as it crosses the area. Most of us will see rain from this system in that time frame. By the start of next weekend, the models diverge a bit in their thinking. Either way, temperatures look to drop below average. Right now it looks mostly dry, but that could easily change. Some data points to high temperatures as low as 80 in the Piedmont. I’m not quite brave enough to go that far yet, so I have us at 85 with a 30% chance of rain. This should also help to bring humidity down, but once again the extent of that drier air is to be determined. Make sure to stay hydrated and hang in tough while we wait for the sweet relief!
Tonight: A stray storm. Hot and muggy. Low: 80°. Wind: Calm…
