Mecklenburg County’s tax collection efforts have hit new milestones, achieving record-breaking figures for the 2024-2025 budget year. As reported by Mecklenburg County News, the Office of the Tax Collector has collected over $2 billion in property taxes across several jurisdictions, including Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte, and surrounding towns. This marks an unprecedented collection rate of 99.5% for ad valorem taxes.
Alongside property taxes, the office has also seen a significant uptick in business tax revenues, with gross receipts totaling $180 million, a near $10 million increment from last year’s figures. Room occupancy, prepared food and beverage, vehicle rental, and heavy equipment taxes, constitute some of the business taxes collected, as detailed by the original report. The combined efforts resulted in a colossal $2,276,619,903.42 total for the year’s collections of both types of taxes.
