Flowers and candles honor Iryna Zarutska at South End station

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A growing memorial is taking shape on the platform where 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska was killed in an unprovoked stabbing on Charlotte’s Blue Line in August.

Flowers, candles, and handwritten notes now cover an area of the East-West Boulevard station stop in South End. One note reads: “We failed you Iryna. Rest in peace.”

For neighbors, it’s a painful reminder of her loss…
