Mural dedication held for piece honoring 2 Latina girls who died by suicide

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A mural dedication was held this weekend in Charlotte for a piece honoring two young girls who died by suicide earlier this year.

The mural located at Compare Foods at 201 West Arrowood Rd honors Jocelynn Rojo Carranza, a Texas 11-year-old who died by suicide in February after bullying over immigration status, and Gabriela Aparicio Ortega, a Durham 13-year-old who also died by suicide in February.

Rosalía Torres-Weiner, a Charlotte artist and activist behind Red Calaca Studio, worked together with Charlotte artists Eva Crawford and Matt Moore to design the mural and bring it to fruition on the wall, donated by Compare Foods…
