Man accused of murdering Charlotte woman on Easter Sunday in 2023 found dead in jail cell, SBI investigating

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of the man who died while in custody at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center.

The inmate has been identified as 38-year-old Miguel Gonzalez-Rasalas. He had been in custody since April 9, 2023, for the gruesome murder of a woman on Easter Sunday in 2023.

Authorities said Gonzalez-Rasalas was found unresponsive on Aug. 6 inside the detention center. Medical staff tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at 12:44 p.m.
