Carolina’s car theft ring dismantled using license plate reader technology

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Authorities say more than 30 stolen vehicles worth more than $1.5 million have been returned to their owners after investigators dismantled a multi-state vehicle theft ring.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department worked with law enforcement in Charlotte and Monroe, North Carolina, to track down dozens of stolen vehicles taken in 2024.
