MATTHEWS, North Carolina — A domestic dispute escalated into a tense standoff Thursday when a 44-year-old man allegedly assaulted his wife and trapped their four children inside their home, forcing police to use a flashbang device to bring the situation under control.
The suspect, identified as Tyrone Jenkins, faces multiple charges, including four felony counts of false imprisonment, four counts of child abuse, domestic violence, and resisting a public officer.
Disturbance on Chambers Drive
According to the Matthews Police Department, officers arrived around 4:30 p.m. at a residence on the 1700 block of Chambers Drive after receiving reports of a domestic disturbance.
They found a woman outside with visible injuries who told officers her husband had assaulted her and had been holding her against her will. Police soon learned Jenkins was inside with their four children and had two outstanding felony arrest warrants.
Standoff and Negotiations
Police said Jenkins briefly stepped outside but then retreated back inside and locked the door. Backup was called, including a special response team, and a perimeter was quickly established…
