CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Prosecutors have filed a motion in the case of Decarlos Brown Jr., the man accused of fatally stabbing Iryna Zarutska on a CATS light rail in August.
On Monday, September 29, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office asked the court for Atrium Health to release Brown’s medical records, including psychiatric and psychological evaluations, related to his treatment following the deadly incident.
According to the motion, after the August 22 attack, Brown was treated at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center for a hand injury. While at the hospital, investigators believe Brown made statements to hospital staff that could be relevant to the case.
Although Brown originally signed a release form allowing police access to his medical records, Atrium Health asked that “the request be made in an appropriate legal manner.”…
