Charlotte’s Latino families face hidden homelessness issues amid fear of reporting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Organizations working closely with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools families to combat homelessness say Latino families in Charlotte are not reporting homelessness as much as other nationalities, though many suffer in silence.

At Camino, staff believe the homeless population is likely higher than reported within the district based on the number of children coming to their office to get help, but they believe fear of being reported to authorities remains a barrier.
