Black-owned smoothie bowl concept opens in Midtown Charlotte

A new business opened recently at the Metropolitan in Midtown Charlotte, and a young Black woman is in charge.

Lauryn Taylor, 23, is the newest — and youngest — franchisee of Palm Berries, a customizable acai bowl concept that was founded in her hometown of Denver, N.C.

Taylor celebrated the grand opening of her Palm Berries location on Nov. 2 with a giveaway, a line of eager supporters and lots of smiles. The date marked the merging of a longtime goal to open her own business and support for the business she’s loved for years.

Taylor told QCity Metro she first had Palm Berries years ago when it operated from a food truck and instantly fell in love with its offerings. The business offers customers blended acai bowls that can be customized with fresh fruit, granola, sauces and other toppings. Pall Berries has 12 locations between North Carolina and Virginia…
