Infant Nalaya Crew Found Safe After Abduction as Charlotte Suspects Taken into Custody Following Community-Assisted Search

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) announced that ten-month-old Nalaya Crew, who was reported abducted earlier this month, has been safely located and returned to her mother. The two individuals involved, Michelle Hemphill and Timothy Lee Smith Jr., have been arrested and are in police custody. An Amber Alert had been issued, and authorities had requested assistance from the public during the investigation.

According to the CMPD, the child was reportedly taken by 19-year-old Michelle Hemphill, a relative, and her 23-year-old boyfriend, Timothy Lee Smith Jr. Hemphill is currently homeless.
