CHARLOTTE, N.C. — New research is putting ultra-processed foods back under the microscope and raising questions about how they may affect your risk for certain cancers.
Researchers followed more than 29,000 women over several years and found that eating higher amounts of ultra-processed foods may increase the risk of developing precancerous growths in the colon, called polyps — which if left unchecked could turn into colorectal cancer.
