Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Detain Two Suspected of Carrying Concealed Guns on Tyvola Road

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers were quick to action earlier this month when a concerned community member tipped them off about a potential threat. On November 7, around 9:33 p.m., Steele Creek Division and Southwest Service Area Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) officers detained two individuals on Tyvola Road following a report of suspicious activity. “The reporting person stated they observed two males dressed in all black, wearing black ski masks who appeared to have handguns walking eastbound on Tyvola Road towards the McDonalds,” according to a post on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s social media channel.

The officers detained the subjects and, upon a weapons frisk, found a Glock 17 handgun on each person. One of the suspects, later identified via an electronic monitoring device as Dai’Quan Mills, 18, was known to the authorities for past crimes including possession of a stolen firearm less than three weeks prior to his arrest.
