SALISBURY, N.C. — Charlotte highways are topping the list of deadly road stretches across North Carolina.
A study done by Wilmington-based law firm Shipman Wright & Moore analyzed federal crash data between 2019 and 2023. It found the worst stretch was Interstate 85 between Charlotte Douglas International Airport and West Sugar Creek Road, which saw 23 deadly crashes in five years.
Two other stretches of I-85 near Charlotte were also listed high in the report, including a stretch between Kannapolis and China Grove, where 15 deadly crashes occurred…
