Mecklenburg County approves $207 million incentive grant for Scout Motors’ move to Plaza Midwood

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Three weeks after announcing a move to the Queen City, Scout Motors now has a hefty incentive package that was approved by Mecklenburg County commissioners Tuesday.

Scout Motors is planning on moving its headquarters into the Plaza Midwood neighborhood in the coming years. The relocation of the automotive manufacturing company’s headquarters will include a capital investment of $206.9 million and is expected to create 1,200 new jobs within five years at an average annual salary of $179,771 that includes bonuses.

The county’s Business Investment Program grant is a 90 percent grant over 15 years, payable in 10 annual installments of $1.28 million not-to-exceed amount of $12.8 million. The city has offered 15 years at 90 percent, and the state $41.8 million through a matching job development grant.
