Prosecutors move to drop federal charges in Charlotte Border Patrol case

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Federal prosecutors now want to toss a felony assault charge against a man accused of hitting a Border Patrol agent with his car in Charlotte.

In a motion filed Dec. 3, the U.S. Attorney’s Office asked a judge to dismiss the case without prejudice, meaning charges could be brought again later, against 24-year-old Cristobal Maltos. Prosecutors said they were acting “in the interests of justice.”

Maltos had been accused of using his vehicle to strike a federal officer during a Nov. 17 encounter near North Tryon Street.
