NC man gets life in prison for stabbing woman to death in Gastonia

GASTONIA, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An eastern North Carolina man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being convicted of first-degree murder Friday in Gaston County.

A Gaston County jury found 27-year-old Keon Latroy Pernell, of Garysburg, guilty of the 2021 murder of Cherie Shavon Ingram. Judge Gregory Hayes presided over the two-week trial and sentenced Pernell to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

District Attorney records show that in October 2020, Pernell was accused of stabbing Ingram, 38, outside a convenience store in Roanoke Rapids. He was charged with attempted murder, but posted bond, and later accompanied Ingram to Gastonia in March 2021.
