Deputy suffers minor injuries after being ejected from vehicle

A Rowan County deputy suffered minor injuries after hydroplaning and being ejected from his vehicle while responding to assist officers with a call in China Grove.

The crash occurred near the intersection of U.S. Highway 29 and Corriher Gravel Road at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Thursday night.

According to a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson on scene the deputy was responding emergency, meaning with his lights and sirens on, to assist the China Grove Police Department with an armed suspect who had fled from a traffic stop. The deputy hydroplaned near the intersection, running off the roadway, before rolling over and colliding with a utility pole.
