CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — FIling is closed, and the candidates are set for the 2026 primaries in Mecklenburg County.

It’s a midterm year for national elections, but there are dozens of state and local positions up for grabs as well.

Sheriff

Perhaps the most-high profile race in Mecklenburg County will be the race for sheriff. Garry McFadden is running for re-election and seeks a fifth term.

He will have three competitors, all fellow Democrats: Rodney Collins, Antwain Nance and Ricky Robbins. Collins and Nance each have worked under McFadden in the sheriff’s office, and Robbins is a retired sergeant with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department…
