MINT HILL, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Both officers injured in a shootout during a child custody exchange have been released from the hospital, according to the Mint Hill Police Department.
Around 10:45 a.m. on Friday, officers responded to the 6800 block of Matthews-Mint Hill Road about a child custody exchange. A man, identified as 36-year-old Tjamel Ali Hamlin II, produced a firearm, officials said.
Gunfire was exchanged, and both officers were hospitalized from gunshot wounds above the neck. Hamlin was shot and killed at the scene.
