Denny Hamlin’s parents were celebrating family milestone on day of fatal house fire

The parents of Denny Hamlin, Dennis and Mary Lou, were celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary when a devastating house fire broke out near Stanley, North Carolina.

Dennis Hamlin, 75, and Mary Lou Hamlin, 69, suffered catastrophic injuries after a two-story home was engulfed in flames on Sunday night. Dennis sadly died from his injuries in the hospital, officials confirmed Monday, and Mary Lou is currently in critical condition.

The fire broke out Sunday evening at a residence in Gaston County believed to be occupied by the parents of Hamlin, authorities said. Emergency crews arrived at the home along Blacksnake Road shortly after 6:19 p.m. local time, following reports from neighbors of heavy smoke and flames emanating from the property.
