CMPD urges vigilance for New Year’s Eve celebrations in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Many people will be hitting the streets in Charlotte Wednesday night to celebrate New Year’s Eve, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is encouraging everyone to have a good time — safely.

The department released a video going over some tips to keep you and your loved ones protected. Here’s what CMPD wants you to keep in mind:

  • Stay alert and aware of your surroundings.
  • If you see something out of the ordinary, contact authorities.
  • Keep your belongings secure and be sure to lock up any valuables you have with you.
  • If you are going to drink, plan ahead and secure a ride home.
  • And if that ride home is with a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft, be sure to check the vehicle’s license plate before getting in to make sure it’s the right car.
