Elderly man found dead behind Indian Land business; Charlotte suspect arrested

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Charlotte man has been charged in connection with the shooting death of an elderly man found behind a Lancaster County business this week.

According to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Calvin Lamarr Allen, 44, of Charlotte, is charged with murder in the death of 74-year-old Gary Herendeen.

Herendeen was found shot to death on Monday, Jan. 5, behind The Designers Marketplace on Yarborough Road in Indian Land, South Carolina.

Murdered inside his vehicle

Investigators believe Herendeen, who worked at the business, sometimes slept in his van parked behind the store. Officials said he was sleeping there the night of January 1 into the morning of January 2 when Allen allegedly drove from Charlotte to the location and shot him multiple times.
