The monks path of the Walk for Peace officially crossed the Rowan County line on Friday, venturing from the zMAX Dragway to Mount Olivet Methodist Church in Concord to finally the China Grove Community Memorial Building. They continue their journey through Rowan County on Saturday.
The Walk for Peace has gained significant online traction in the last couple weeks, amassing a following on Facebook of more than 1.4 million. The monks walking are from Dhammacetiya, a site of sacred Buddhist stupas, in Fort Worth, Texas. They have been walking since Oct. 26 on their way to Washington, D.C., with a single mission — peace.
They have been more than 1,600 miles on their 2,300-mile journey and ventured through seven states, stopping at state capitals along the way. At almost every stop, they deliver their message of peace to the crowds that follow them. They are expected to reach D.C. by Feb. 13…
