Hickory Man Sentenced to Over 8 Years for Armed Carjacking to Serve After Completing 14-Year State Term

A Hickory man, Marcus Mayfield, 32, has been sentenced to over eight years in federal prison for his role in an armed carjacking. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Mayfield pleaded guilty to carjacking and aiding and abetting, and U.S. District Judge Matthew E. Orso also ordered two years of supervised release following his prison term.

The incident occurred on January 11, 2023, when Marcus Mayfield and his accomplice, Kaionta Dabney, reportedly followed a Dodge Hellcat before carrying out the carjacking. Mayfield held the victim, identified by the initials R.P., at gunpoint while Dabney took control of the vehicle, according to court documents. Mayfield’s federal sentence will be served in addition to a 14-year state prison term for a separate conviction of robbery with a dangerous weapon.
