Charlotte man who threatened customers at NoDa pizza shop gets 40 months for civil rights violation

A Charlotte man was sentenced to 40 months in prison last week after pleading guilty to a federal civil rights violation.

Maurice Hopkins, 32, will also serve three years of supervised release following his prison term. The sentence was announced by Russ Ferguson, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.

According to court documents and testimony from the sentencing hearing, the incident happened on June 8, 2024, inside Zämbies Pizza, located on North Davidson Street in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood.
