CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Former Charlotte City Councilwoman Tiawana Brown has agreed to plead guilty to her federal fraud charge, as indicated by documents filed Thursday.
Brown was representing District 3 on council when she was charged in May for alleged misuse of COVID-19 relief funds during the pandemic. Federal prosecutors alleged that Brown and her daughters used fake tax documents to fraudulently obtain nearly $125,000 from the loans, using it to fund an extravagant birthday party.

A Factual Basis court document says Brown and the other parties “expressly agree that there is a factual basis for the guilty plea(s) that the defendant will tender pursuant to the plea agreement.” It’s specific to her Count One: wire fraud conspiracy.
