Charlotte leaders ‘in the hot seat’ Monday to discuss DEI, light rail stabbing with NC House committee

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Diversity initiatives, Iryna Zarutska and Charlotte’s public transit system will be the focus of a hearing set for next week in Raleigh. Several area leaders, including Mayor Vi Lyles and Sheriff Garry McFadden, will testify before the House Oversight Committee at the General Assembly on Monday morning.

Republicans, specifically Majority Leader Brenden Jones, have been clear that they want to put Charlotte leaders in the hot seat.

“Crime’s been running rampant because those that’s been elected to do the job of protecting is not doing that job,” argued Jones, representing Robeson and Columbus counties, during an interview with Queen City News last month…
