A grim discovery was made early yesterday morning as the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit launched an investigation into a death in the Freedom Division. According to a press release from the department, officers arrived at the 700 block of Lawton Road after a Check the Welfare call, where they found one individual deceased from apparent trauma.
The call came in shortly after 6 a.m. yesterday, and MEDIC pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The CMPD’s statement indicates that alongside Homicide Unit detectives, Crime Scene Search was also deployed to collect evidence. Several other supportive entities including CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, and the Charlotte Fire Department assisted with the initial response, but the victim’s identity has not been disclosed pending family notification.
