CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Mint Hill man has been sentenced for a fraud scheme that targeted individual investors, a federal COVID-19 relief program, and even his own church, according to the DOJ.
According to court documents, in or around February 2019, Brian Shane Haigler, 43, started to recruit friends and acquaintances to invest money in what he represented as “real estate transactions.” Haigler promised his investors that their money would be used to purchase or improve specific properties and that they would receive fixed returns by a certain date.
Instead of investing the money, Haigler used little, if any, of the money on legitimate real estate purposes. A large portion of the money was used on personal expenditures or to make payments to earlier investors.
