‘Allisha was failed’: Plea deal upsets family of woman killed by Charlotte man

TROY, N.C. (WBTV) – Family and friends of Allisha Watts walked out of a Montgomery County courtroom on Wednesday afternoon, feeling like their loved one never received justice.

James Dunmore, the man accused of killing Watts in 2023, pleaded guilty on Wednesday, Feb. 18 to a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter. He also pleaded guilty to failure to notify of a death. Dunmore maintains his innocent in connection with her death, however.

Dunmore on Wednesday pleaded guilty using the Alford Plea, which means he doesn’t accept fault for the crimes, but does accept conviction. He will be treated as if he were guilty, despite whether he was or not…
