All Aboard Charlotte calls for more train stops in Salisbury, Kannapolis

Maybe it’s time for Rowan County to get back on track, the railroad track that is. One group of local railroad advocates thinks so.

Members from All Aboard Charlotte, a branch of Carolinas Association for Passenger Trains, have been coming to local city council and county commission meetings to advocate for the reinstatement of the Salisbury and Kannapolis Piedmont line stops. They are asking representatives to pressure the North Carolina Department of Transportation from a local level.

In July 2023, NCDOT changed the railway schedule for the Piedmont 71, 76 and 78 rail lines, which run between Raleigh and Charlotte. The change eliminated stops in the morning in Salisbury from Raleigh to Charlotte, making the earliest train from Salisbury to Charlotte 12:25 p.m…
