A late-night run from the law turned into highway chaos early Tuesday when a reported vandalism call at a Pineville hotel escalated into a pursuit along I-485, a crash near Woodlawn Road, and three people in custody. Police say the car’s driver tried a last-second escape, jumping a median and curb before the vehicle broke down and everyone bailed out on foot. Two of those arrested were juveniles that officers say already had secure-custody orders and had previously cut off their ankle monitors.
What Pineville Police Say
According to a post by the Pineville Police Department – N.C., officers were called just after 2 a.m. Tuesday to the Fairfield Inn & Suites at a Hilton property for reports of vandalized vehicles in the parking lot.
Officers say they quickly spotted a vehicle tied to the vandalism and followed it as it pulled away from the hotel, through Pineville and into Charlotte. The pursuit ended near Woodlawn Road after the driver tried to dart off the interstate by jumping a median and curb, disabling the car. In their Facebook recap, police summed it up with a pointed line: “Wrong town. Wrong shift. Wrong officers.”
Gun Recovered, Three Teens Charged
