Charlotte Soul Favorite Skyview22 Quits Walmart, Rolls Back To Food Truck

Skyview22, the soul food restaurant tucked inside the Walmart Supercenter off Callabridge Court in northwest Charlotte, is packing up its trays and leaving the big-box life behind. The brick-and-mortar location will serve its final plates on March 1, and owner Sharnette King says she and her team will pivot the business back to its roots as a food truck and catering operation after that date. The move closes a three-year run at the store that began when the couple behind the brand expanded their popular food truck into a shop in January 2023.

According to the Charlotte Observer, Skyview22’s last day inside the Walmart will be March 1. The paper reports that the owners broke the news on social media and confirmed that the business will keep rolling as a food truck while also taking catering bookings. The announcement also appeared on the restaurant’s Instagram account, @skyview22clt.

From Food Truck Streets To Walmart Aisles And Back Again

Skyview22 started as a food truck and later opened a brick-and-mortar spot inside the Walmart at 9820 Callabridge Ct in January 2023, according to its website. The menu leans hard into Southern comfort staples, with baked and fried chicken, cheesy macaroni, collard greens and cornbread among the regulars on the line. Local coverage at the time highlighted the novelty of a Black-owned soul food spot operating inside a Walmart store. Skyview22 and WCCB both spotlighted the launch.
