Man arrested after Union County chase leads to car going up in flames, alleged seizure of drugs and AR pistol

INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Union County traffic stop led to a chase and a suspect’s car catching fire before facing a slew of charges last weekend.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, a white Dodge Charger was observed leaving an Indian Trail gas station at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated, and the vehicle reportedly was slow to stop.

Deputies made contact with the driver, James Hunt III, and allegedly detected signs of impairment along with a strong odor of marijuana. As James exited the vehicle, deputies observed a bullet near the center console. The suspect informed deputies that he had an AR pistol inside the vehicle.

While deputies were attempting to detain him, the sheriff’s office says James physically assaulted the deputy, reached for the pistol, and then sped away…
