Man sentenced to life in prison for 1994 Charlotte rape

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday after a Mecklenburg County jury convicted him of raping a woman in her home more than 30 years ago, prosecutors announced.

James Ingersoll, 53, was found guilty of first-degree rape and first-degree burglary stemming from a June 17, 1994, attack on a Charlotte woman. Superior Court Judge Craig R. Collins handed down the sentence.

Collins also sentenced Ingersoll to an additional 25 years in prison for the burglary conviction, to be served consecutively to the life sentence. If released, Ingersoll will be required to register as a sex offender for 30 years…
