Charlotte man charged in the ‘despicable’ homicide of a 15-year-old, SC sheriff says.

Laurens County deputies investigated the tragic shooting death of 15-year-old Leo Scott Epting, a Laurens District 55 High School freshman, found in a Gray Court roadway on March 7. An 18-year-old Charlotte man, Ryan Ingersoll, faces murder, armed robbery, conspiracy, and weapons charges, with a juvenile co-suspect detained in North Carolina pending extradition.

Around 5:30 a.m. on Tanglewood Way—roughly 105 miles southwest of uptown Charlotte—Epting succumbed to gunshot wounds despite responders’ efforts. Sheriff Don Reynolds called it a “despicable act,” thanking Charlotte-Mecklenburg PD for swift aid in the cross-state probe; details remain limited due to sensitivity.
