NoDa Shooting Leaves Man Paralyzed, Yet He Still Forgives Gunman

On what should have been a routine July night in one of Charlotte’s buzziest neighborhoods, Pedro Aguirre ended up fighting for his life. The NoDa regular was shot during an attempted robbery near Mercury Street and North Davidson Street on July 26, 2025, an attack that left him paralyzed from the waist down and with a bullet lodged in his spine. His friend, Bryan Martinez, walked away alive but with a shattered right femur. These days, Aguirre spends his time working on upper-body strength, talking with doctors about learning to drive again and thinking about how to get back to work. For a man who now uses a wheelchair, his to-do list reads less like a victim’s and more like a comeback plan.

Aguirre’s Recovery And Recent Interview

In a March 12, 2026 interview with WBTV, Aguirre talked candidly about life after the shooting. He described rehab as a grind that demands serious effort, saying, “You just have to use a lot of upper strength” as he learns new ways to move through the world.

According to WBTV, the bullet that struck Aguirre is still lodged in his spine, a constant reminder of that July night that he says he often replays in his head. Even so, he told the outlet that his immediate goals are practical ones: mastering adaptive driving and eventually returning to work.

Detectives Renew Call For Tips

While Aguirre focuses on recovery, detectives are still trying to track down the person who shot him. Charlotte-Mecklenburg investigators say they are actively working to identify the gunman and are asking residents to review home surveillance and Ring doorbell footage for anything that might help, as reported by Axios Charlotte.

Witness Descriptions And Neighborhood Concerns

Friends who were with Aguirre that night told WBTV that the attacker came out of the darkness, then ran off on foot after the shooting. They described the suspect as about 5-foot-7, with a slim build and wearing dark clothing…
