Driver dies after veering off I-40 during severe storms, NC trooper says

A driver died after he lost control of his SUV and crashed into an embankment on Interstate 40 in Statesville as severe storms swept across the Charlotte region on Monday, a State Highway Patrol trooper said.

Lee Glover, a 78-year-old Morganton resident, died near mile marker 154, Senior Trooper K. Jake Macchia said in a news release.

Glover’s eastbound 2010 Toyota Highlander overturned several times after veering off the right side of the highway and hitting the embankment around 9:50 a.m., the trooper said. Glover wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, Macchia said…
