A man was arrested Thursday morning after an armed robbery at a Belmont Lowe’s led to a high-speed vehicle pursuit and a collision with a garbage truck. Reginald Cannon, 48, was taken into custody after the pursuit ended near the interchange of Interstate 85 and Interstate 485 in Mecklenburg County.

Officers with the Belmont Police Department responded to the retail store at 200 Caldwell Farm Road around 7 a.m. following reports of a robbery. Investigators determined a suspect had robbed a victim at gunpoint, stealing a cellphone and wallet before initially fleeing on foot. A K-9 unit from the Gastonia Police Department was called to the scene to assist in the search.
