CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A wave of threats targeting schools in the Charlotte region has prompted investigations by multiple law enforcement agencies and renewed concerns among parents and former students about school safety.
In Cleveland County, the sheriff’s office is investigating online shooting threats made against Shelby High School and Shelby Middle School. Authorities determined those specific threats to be a hoax, but the sheriff’s office said several other threats throughout the county remain under investigation.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is also responding to a recent incident. The district notified parents of Stoney Creek Elementary students this week after something occurred in one of its classrooms Tuesday morning, though officials declined to specify what happened.
