A high-speed police chase through Charlotte ended with a 22-year-old man in handcuffs and officers hauling away nearly five pounds of suspected marijuana, multiple guns and a pile of cash. The pursuit kicked off when officers tried to make a traffic stop and the driver allegedly hit the gas, forcing the department to lean on its tracking tools to keep eyes on the fleeing vehicle. Police say the suspect was ultimately located and taken into custody without incident.
According to Queen City News, the driver has been identified as 22-year-old Kentral Morton. Officers told the outlet they seized drugs, firearms and cash from both the vehicle and a residence linked to the case. Queen City News reports that Morton is facing a felony flee to elude charge, along with several traffic-related counts, and a felony charge of possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance, specifically marijuana.
What officers say they recovered
In a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release, investigators said they recovered about 4.9 pounds of suspected marijuana, five cases of suspected marijuana vape products or synthetic marijuana, three firearms, body armor and a money counter during searches of the vehicle and a nearby residence. Officers also reported seizing roughly $3,990 in U.S. currency. CMPD said its Real Time Crime Center tracked the fleeing vehicle, which helped lead detectives to a vehicle connected to the investigation.
