Feds hunt down accused child predator nearly a decade after he fled Charlotte to escape charges

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Department of Justice says an accused child predator is back in Charlotte to face charges after being hunted down in the Dominican and arrested. Officials say 39-year-old Roberto Hinojosa, who was a lawful, permanent U.S. citizen, fled to the Dominican Republic to avoid the charges after a grand jury in Uptown indicted him back in 2017.

Prosecutors say that in 2015, he possessed, sent and received child sex abuse material. Some of it included children under the age of 12. On Tuesday, a judge ordered that he be detained until his trial. A trial date has not been set…
