Child airlifted to hospital after being hit by construction equipment, officials say

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — A 2-year-old was seriously injured when a five-ton piece of construction equipment struck them in Burke County on Thursday, officials confirmed to WCNC Charlotte.

Burke County Emergency Services says the incident happened along Dyartsville Road, several miles southwest of Morganton. County officials say the child fell and was hit by a track loader.

Off-duty paramedics arrived at the scene and saved the child’s life, county officials said. The child was taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to Atrium Health’s Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem…
