She was found at a window on the opposite side of the house. Officials said she was safely taken out of the building. When the fire department arrived, they found a man in the area where the fire was most intense. He was removed from the home, and first responders started life-saving measures.

Both occupants were taken to a local hospital; however, the man, 59 years old and the owner of the home, later died. His name was not released.

According to the Union County Fire Marshal, the fire was started by discarded smoking materials where the man was found. Officials say this is still an active investigation.
