Speed limits lowered on three major roads in Matthews due to safety and traffic concerns

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) — Speed limits are changing on major roads in the Matthews area as local leaders work to improve safety amid growing traffic.

On April 2, the N.C. Department of Transportation and the Town of Matthews approved lowering the speed limit on surrounding roads to 35 mph. This represents a decrease of 10 mph from the previous 45 mph speed limit.

The following roads will see 35 mph speed limits:

  • McKee Road
  • Pleasant Plains Road
  • Weddington Road
