CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Nearly 248,000 trips were logged on Charlotte’s newly opened I-485 Express Lanes in March 2026, officials said, as transportation authorities urge drivers to pay outstanding tolls before state-mandated late fees kick in.
Drivers who used the express lanes without an NC Quick Pass account should expect a toll invoice in the mail, sent to the vehicle’s registered owner. While individual charges may amount to only a few dollars, unpaid bills will incur late fees required under state law.
