Drought declared in Gaston County, water restrictions requested

The city of Gastonia and Two Rivers Utilities is asking residents and businesses to conserve water after the Catawba–Wateree Drought Management Advisory Group declared the area to be in a stage one drought.

The Catawba–Wateree Drought Management Advisory Group is a coalition of local water utilities, including TRU, as well as cities, industries, and Duke Energy, that rely on water from the basin.

At this stage, residents and businesses are not required to limit water use, but they are strongly encouraged to conserve water where possible. The goal is for all users to voluntarily reduce water consumption by at least 3 to 5%…
